Consignment RV Dealers Allow Sellers to Avoid The Difficulty of Dealing With Strangers

February 29th, 2012

I am a paranoid consumer. I don’t like to buy or sell to strangers. I know that consignment RV dealers sell RVs, but I simply don’t feel completely comfortable yet. I’m still considering which method is the best method to sell my RV.

There are basic selling methods that are available to every seller:

1.    The recreational vehicle for sale by owner.

2.    The recreational vehicle for sale on the consignment RV lot.

3.    The recreational vehicle trade in for another vehicle.

In the midst of my research of various methods and opportunities that can help sell my RV, I found the obvious three options; none of which left me feeling very comfortable. Then I found a different type of RV consignment dealer. When you’re selling your RV you can attempt to advertise the sale and then handle the sale. This is called selling your recreational vehicle “by owner.”  You can ask a professional salesman to handle your sale and allow them to take a percentage of the sale price. This is what would be called consignment. You can drive your vehicle to a new RV dealer’s lot and offer it in trade towards a newer, larger, more expensive vehicle.

The problem with all of the above options is that it left me dealing with strangers. It’s not that I dislike all strangers. It’s just that I dislike a lot of strangers and don’t feel the need to meet random people and allow them into my life simply because I want to sell my RV.

Most think these are the only three options, but as an extremely paranoid consumer, I dug a little deeper and I feel that I’ve discovered a fourth option. I found SellMyRVToday.com. Some would describe them as a consignment RV dealer, but I beg to differ.

It’s the only option I found that allowed me to avoid the necessity to interact with random strangers. All I had to do was call in and advise the company that I wanted to sell my recreational vehicle. They took the reins from there. I just waited for them to pick up my vehicle and deliver my certified funds. I didn’t officially “meet” any strangers. There were no stilted conversations and I don’t feel like random odd people now know where I live. My hermit lifestyle is still intact. To top it all off…it was fast. It was completely finished within days. It took the hassle (and the strangers) out of selling my RV.

RV Consignment Sales: Not Your Typical Consignment Boutique Specializing in Vintage Shoes and Clothing

February 26th, 2012

I have my favorite consignment shops. I love the little boutique-like consignment places that have a specialty: vintage shoes and clothing, old school techie items, “most likely” antiques, jewelry, etc. There’s always such a wide array of options. I think it is utterly delicious to be able to pick through a tray of jewelry and find the pieces that seem too amazing (or too ridiculous) to wear anywhere and then imagine who wore them and where they went while they were so amazingly (or ridiculously) adorned. Consignment shops make me smile. They make me sigh and want to go in. Every now and then they make me want to buy. The “every now and then” is notable when you are considering selling a major item through a similar method. Take RV consignment sales. They work off the same theory and they get a lot of the same results, but at the same time, they aren’t your typical consignment boutique.

RV consignment sales are quite a bit different than selling clothing or shoes on consignment. It’s a recreational vehicle (or RV). That’s a major purchase in the eyes of most consumers and that changes the rules. So as a consumer that frequents consignment shops I can attest to the fact that “every now and then” I buy something. This “every now and then” will become “few and far between” when the items at hand are falling into the major purchase category.

You have to consider the downfalls of the consignment method for RVs:

1.    Sales people on a consignment RV lot are not selling your vehicle. They are selling any vehicle on the lot. They don’t care which one it is; they just want a sale and any sale will do.

2.    The competition on the lot is high. Your vehicle is most likely going to be side by side with a lot of very similar options. It’s hard to stand out and get the sale in a timely manner.

3.    Side by side price comparisons are not always beneficial for the seller. The owner of the RV next to you may be more desperate for cash than you are and therefore willing to lowball their RV’s value. That leaves your RV looking overpriced. It can be problematic.

Don’t assume that because you once purchased a pair of vintage heels at a consignment shop that your RV is going to be purchased quickly off of a local consignment lot. That particular pair of shoes may have been sitting in that consignment shop for years. You really have no idea. The same can be true of some of the RVs on consignment lots. They sometimes have to earn the sale by gaining seniority on the lot.

If this potentially extensive time requirement is making you sweat and you know that you simply wanted to sell your RV without getting into an argument about consignment RVs and vintage heels, take a deep breath. It doesn’t have to be this way. Instead you could simply get in touch with SellMyRVToday.com. You want to sell a recreational vehicle today? That’s so funny…because we want to buy one. We’re in the business of buying RVs. It’s fun for us. So stop stressing and let’s get started.

RV Consignment Dealers Can Sell RVs, but Will YOURS Be 1st Priority on the Lot?

February 23rd, 2012

RV consignment dealers know how to sell RVs. They can be pretty thorough and efficient. I’m pretty sure that if they had their own personal RV on the lot, it would sell pretty quickly. The problem is that YOUR RV isn’t “their own” personal RV. It’s just going to be one of many RVs for sale. That usually means that your RV is going to have a hard time standing out, and that it will be left on the lot for longer than you’d prefer.

Many think that the only way to make their RV the 1st priority is to sell it by owner, but they are too aware of all the pitfalls to actually attempt it. You can’t blame them, the pitfalls are many and some can be disastrous:

1.    Scams: Con artists are always coming up with new ways to purchase products without actually providing you with valid funds. This type of con is only more prominent and more difficult amongst high price tag items like recreational vehicles.

2.    Extensive Time Investments: Do you have a job? If not, you do once you’ve taken on the project of selling your recreational vehicle on your own. You’ll need to keep your ad/s up to date. You’ll need to respond to calls, voicemails, texts, and emails in a timely manner. You’ll have to schedule in person meetings with individuals who act interested. You’ll most likely need to mobilize the RV and meet halfway for many of the interested parties. You’ll also need to do all of this with a smile on your face. It’s called customer service, buddy, and you’ll have to dig deep and come up with some.

3.    Cleaning and Repairs: Did you think that people would be willing to look past a little dirt? Most really aren’t that willing to envision how clean it might be with a little elbow grease. You’ll have to go ahead and put that elbow grease into action to provide them with the finished results. Those cosmetic repairs you’ve been putting off? You should probably go ahead and complete them now that you’re trying to sell. People will recognize them as doable, but also avoidable because there’s another RV for sale by another owner a couple blocks over and they probably have an appointment with them next.

You really don’t avoid the negatives of the typical consignment RV lot when you sell by owner. You just add a bunch of new issues to the mix. How do you avoid ALL the hassle? You sell directly to a professional RV buyer, of course. You didn’t know professional RV buyers existed? They actually do.

At SellMyRVToday.com we buy RVs. That’s our business, and have it down to an exact science. We can have your RV picked up, title transferred, payoff processed, and certified funds in your hand within 3 business days in most cases. I hope you don’t believe me. That way I’ll have the chance to prove you wrong. Let’s do this. Give us a call, let us know it’s go time…and have your stopwatch ready.

How to Sell My RV Without Spending a Pretty Penny

February 20th, 2012

I’m looking for information on how to sell my RV and it seems that most advice revolves around spending money in order to attract buyers. That’s a bit of a problem for me since I’m only selling my RV to save the expense of storage, maintenance and upkeep. It’s an attempt to cut back on expenses. If I could afford to spend extra money, I would continue to indulge my love of recreational vehicles. Motorhomes are great. You just have to be able to afford to travel frequently and comfortably. It’s no fun if you are stressed out about the money being spent the entire time.

So don’t tell me that I can get more money for my RV sale if I fix all the tiny, cosmetic issues. Don’t suggest that I have a mechanic give it a once over so that I can have a trustworthy “no mechanical complications” claim and please avoid suggesting that I upgrade the appliances and reupholster. Are you kidding? If I could afford to do any of that, I would have done it when I was using it so I could be the one to enjoy it. Suddenly deciding to sell the RV doesn’t increase the amount of leisure money I have laying around.

There was one guy that I ran into at a sporting goods store that happened to wrestle me into a conversation and then provide me with a priceless piece of advice. This funny guy told me that if I wanted to sell my RV then I should simply tell someone who wants to buy RVs that I have one for sale. I laughed at the time, but once I started to think about it I decided he might be onto something…and what do you know? There is a company that is in business simply to purchase other people’s used recreational vehicles. I got in touch and told them I wanted to sell my RV and they bought it. The entire deal was completed and I had certified funds in my hand in only 3 days. It was SellMyRVToday.com.

I just wanted to write in and say thanks for being in the business of buying RVs. You’ve made the entire process so much more doable. I should also say thanks to the funny guy from the sporting goods store in the plaid pants and Lynard Skynard T-shirt. That sarcastic comment you made was actually a great idea.

You’re Entering the Consignment RV Sales Game: First Step…Identify Your Purpose

February 17th, 2012

Is it time to sell your RV? Are you going to access consignment RV sales or sell by owner? What made you decide to sell your RV? When you’re entering the world of RV consignment sales it’s important to first identify your purpose.

Reasons to Sell Your RV:

1.    Upgrading: you want a larger RV.

2.    Downgrading: you want a smaller RV.

3.    Lateral Move: You want to buy a different type of RV (fifth wheel, motorized, etc.)

4.    Cutting Expenses: RVs are an economic method of travel, but not traveling is even cheaper.

5.    Avoid the Hassle of Maintenance: You’ve always hated maintaining your vehicle and can’t believe you decided to take on a second, even larger vehicle that you have to maintain.

6.    Your Spouse is Making You: For whatever reason you are in the doghouse and your spouse is throwing her/his weight behind selling the RV. At another time you would refuse or distract her/him from these nefarious purposes, but with the current state of affairs at home (or in the backyard where the doghouse is typically kept) she/he is going to get her/his way.

7.    You Just Don’t Love it: RVing is a ton of fun. You’ve heard so many people rave about it, but the thing is, it isn’t for everyone and after owning one for a while you’re sure that it isn’t for you. It’s time to sell it and move on to something else.

8.    Storage Issues: If you don’t have anywhere to store your RV, the fun of travel can be far outweighed by the stress of having the RV at home with nowhere to put it. Storage options can be pricey and, in some cases, unavailable. It’s something that should be considered before a purchase, but if not…it can definitely become a reason to sell.

Now, identify your purpose. It may coincide with one of the common reasons for selling RVs listed above or you may have some unique agenda all your own. Whatever your reason, keep it firmly in mind when you approach the consignment RV sales options in your area so that you don’t get cold feet and decide that it’s just easier to keep it, even if you don’t have anywhere to store it, can’t afford it or simply never use it. The best bet you have is to work with SellMyRVToday.com. We don’t just consign your RV and throw it on a local lot. We buy it outright. That’s what we do. Get in touch and let us know what you have and you’ll see just how easy it can be to get rid of an unwanted RV.

What Should I Do If I Want to Sell My RV?

February 14th, 2012

What should I do if I want to sell my RV? I really don’t want to spend a lot of money on the vehicle right before I sell it. I have a hard time identifying what is actually necessary and what is just filler to pump up the mechanic’s bill when I take the vehicle in for work. I have always completed the recommended maintenance so I have no reason to believe there are any problems. I was just advised that I should have a full mechanical inspection completed before having it detailed and performing cosmetic repairs. I am supposed to do all of this simply to sell it to the next owner. It just seems like a bit much. Is it really necessary?

-    Janelle, Denver, CO

Janelle’s RVing friend who shared information on what to do to maximize the price you can get for your vehicle was correct in the general sense. Completing any and all needed mechanical repairs, having the RV detailed and completing any visible cosmetic repairs will increase the amount that your vehicle is worth to the general public. If you’re selling the vehicle yourself through local advertisements this could be extremely important. It will also be beneficial if you are going to sell your RV through any of the traditional RV consignment lots in your area.

We, of course, don’t suggest selling RVs by owner and we are not your typical RV consignment lot. With SellMyRVToday.com the regular rules don’t particularly apply. Our entire purpose is to buy RVs. We buy RVs 2002 or newer (with the exception of travel trailers and fifth wheels). We’re in the business of buying RVs. We see RVs for their potential. We know what they’re worth. We do this everyday, and we aren’t going to let an inconsequential cosmetic repair hurt the deal. Major mechanical issues would definitely be a problem, but if you haven’t experienced any and you have made a point to perform necessary maintenance on your RV, there’s no reason to believe your vehicle is in bad shape.

We would appreciate a clean vehicle, but don’t spend hundreds of dollars having it detailed. Most RVers haven’t neglected their RVs to the point where a thorough detail would be necessary. Just sweep it out and clean the general surfaces. We’re all about getting the transaction completed so we aren’t going to insist you complete any unnecessary tasks before we purchase it.

If you still aren’t sure if your RV is ready to sell, give us a call and ask us. Tell us what the dilemma is and we’ll tell you whether or not to worry about it. It can really be that simple.

Have You Ever Tried RV Consignment?

February 10th, 2012

I recently had a friend ask me, “Have you ever tried RV consignment?” Having had a really great experience ridding myself of my old RV through SellMyRVToday.com I answered in the affirmative. That’s where it all started to go wrong. I guess that I should have mentioned that it was with SellMyRVToday.com. They didn’t know, so they did not go there.  Now their entire RV consignment ordeal is on my shoulders; at least that’s the way they seem to see it. I suppose that selling a recreational vehicle through just any consignment RV shop just isn’t the same as selling through SellMyRVToday.com.

What went wrong, you ask? The easiest thing to do would be to make a list of all the “horrible experiences” my friend and his wife went through as a result of my failing to mention who I dealt with.

1.    They weren’t selling their motorhome because they were sick of RVing, or wanted the option of upgrading/downgrading their recreational vehicle. This was a necessity sale. They needed the cash to put down on a home they found at a fantastic price. They listed their vehicle through RV consignment as per my “recommendation” and it didn’t sell for over 6 months. They didn’t get the cash in time to get the house. This is, of course, entirely my fault because I should have pointed them directly to SellMyRVToday.com so they could have experienced a sale in less than a week like I did.

2.    They didn’t get their original asking price. This wouldn’t have been eligible to add to the list of “horrible experiences” if their original asking price hadn’t been just a tiny bit below market value. Again, responsibility for the decreased amount of funds was placed squarely on my shoulders because I apparently “withheld” the important information that I didn’t use just any RV consignment dealer, but that I used SellMyRVToday.com. I got full market value when I sold my RV and this is simply not fair in the eyes of my buddy (and particularly in the eyes of his wife).

3.    3 months after the sale of the recreational vehicle, another “horrible experience” popped up. Apparently, the title paperwork had not been handled properly. The individual who purchased the vehicle from the lot allegedly went joy riding in a small town and destroyed an entire city block of local signage. He, of course, didn’t stick around to deal with the consequences. Since the title paperwork was not completed properly, the vehicle was traced back to my buddy and his wife. There’s talk of replacement costs and a hearing in some little town in Louisiana. Needless to say, they are ticked…mostly at me.

What have I learned from all of this? I’ve learned that I DO NOT recommend RV consignment dealers. I only recommend SellMyRVToday.com. I’ve also learned that friendships can be…let’s say, strained…by the strangest things. It will blow over eventually, but for now, we’re short one player on poker night.

What’s the Difference Between Overflowing Consign RV Lots and SellMyRVToday.com?

February 6th, 2012

Consign RV lots are often completely full and sometimes overflowing. Drive through any large metropolitan area and you’ll be able to find several different lots that offer plenty of recreational vehicles. You might notice, however, that amidst all those recreational vehicles, you don’t see a lot of customers. Who is buying all those RVs? And what is the difference between the overflowing consign RV lot with little-to-no interested buyers, and SellMyRVToday.com?

It’s pretty simple.

The typical RV consignment lot is local. They have a certain address. Buyers and sellers alike are able to visit the lot. Sellers “consign” their RVs. Buyers check out the available RVs and decide if one of them is the “one.” They are then able to purchase the vehicle and drive it off the lot. Once a buyer decides to purchase a vehicle, the previous owner of said vehicle is paid their portion of the final price. This process can take anywhere from a week to 6 months or more.

SellMyRVToday.com is a virtual anomaly. Individuals who want to sell an RV simply get in touch and advise us of their intent to sell. If the vehicle falls into the eligible category (any RV newer than 2002 and excluding travel trailers and fifth wheels), we are interested in buying it. We process the title paperwork and any necessary bank payoffs. We also pick up the vehicle anywhere in the US. The seller receives certified funds in the amount of the purchase price. This process usually takes somewhere between 1 and 3 business days.

You can sell your RV through a typical consignment lot, but we’re not sure why you would unless your brother owns the lot and really, really needs to add one more RV to the extensive showing of non-selling vehicles he already has up for sale. Don’t waste your time or energy messing around with the business of watching your recreational vehicle not sell on a local consignment lot. Sell it today with SellMyRVToday.com.

Consignment RV Lots Are Not the Only Option for RV Sales

February 2nd, 2012

Do you have a consignment RV? How long have you had it? If you’ve been the proud owner of one of the recreational vehicles on a consignment lot for longer than a few weeks, you might want to consider other options for RV sales. The consignment lot is not your only choice.

Another choice is to sell the vehicle “by owner.” We don’t recommend this option. It leaves you handling the vehicle preparation that most will require prior to purchase (cleaning, mechanical repair, cosmetic repairs, etc.). It also leaves you handling the advertising of your RV listing, buyer interaction and showing the vehicle upon request and, eventually, the title work processing. All in all, selling “by owner” is probably more annoying and difficult than selling your RV on a consignment lot. It’s probably also going to take even longer than it will to obtain a final sale through a consignment company.

The BETTER choice is to contact a professional RV buyer directly. Here at SellMyRVToday.com we buy RVs. That’s our business. All we expect you to do is get in touch and tell us that you want to sell your RV. At that point, we know what to do and we’re basically standing by waiting to hear from you so we can get started on the process. We have the entire transaction down to a science and most of our purchases are completed within 1 to 3 business days.

What is our streamlined process? Here it is – step by step.

1.    We receive the confirmation that an RV owner wants to sell.

2.    We confirm that the vehicle is eligible for purchase (typically any vehicle 2002 or newer excepting fifth wheels and travel trailers).

3.    We obtain any necessary information from you so that we can handle all title work and necessary bank payoffs on your behalf.

4.    We pick up the RV anywhere in the United States or Canada.

5.    We deliver the proceeds (after bank payoff) to you in the form of certified funds.

How long does our streamlined process actually take? We were being completely honest when we said that most of our RV purchases are completed within 1 to 3 business days. That means that if you call us today…you could have your money in hand in less than a week. Sound good? Get in touch.

Texas RV Consignment

January 31st, 2012

There are many RV owners looking into Texas RV consignment options. They are available and they’re not that difficult to find. There are Texas RV consignment options available in: Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas. That’s not to mention the many consignment lots that are located in smaller towns or strategically between towns on the major highways.

How do you decide which to access and which will get you the very best price in the shortest amount of time? You might want to go with the one that is in the most densely populated area. It’s possible that you would see the best results through the lot that has the largest inventory on hand. You might be able to make an argument that the lot with the smaller inventories will be a better bet since your RV will stand out more. It’s a tough call.

We recommend you avoid the Texas RV consignment options altogether. Instead, just get in touch with us here at SellMyRVToday.com and we’ll buy it from you outright. There’s no biting your nails waiting for a buyer to fall in love with your vehicle. There’s no hoping that their financing goes through. With SellMyRVToday.com you can depend upon the fact that this is what we do. We buy RVs.

The fact that buying RVs is all that we do means that we’re good at it. We’re not going to “mess up our financing.” There isn’t any to mess with. We’re not going to change our minds and decide we found a better option. We buy all types of 2002 and newer RVs (except trailers). If we tell you we want to buy your RV…we actually DO want to buy your RV. You let us know you have a recreational vehicle for sale and we’ll most likely have the sale finalized, certified funds delivered and your RV picked up within 3 days.

It’s as simple as that.

You could contact one of the many Texas RV consignment dealers. They’re probably a lot of fun and really nice, and if you crave the social interaction it might be a good choice, but if you just want to sell your RV…skip the consignment lots. We’re faster and much less hassle.
