RV Consignment Dealers Can Sell RVs, but Will YOURS Be 1st Priority on the Lot?
February 23, 2012 4:01 pmRV consignment dealers know how to sell RVs. They can be pretty thorough and efficient. I’m pretty sure that if they had their own personal RV on the lot, it would sell pretty quickly. The problem is that YOUR RV isn’t “their own” personal RV. It’s just going to be one of many RVs for sale. That usually means that your RV is going to have a hard time standing out, and that it will be left on the lot for longer than you’d prefer.
Many think that the only way to make their RV the 1st priority is to sell it by owner, but they are too aware of all the pitfalls to actually attempt it. You can’t blame them, the pitfalls are many and some can be disastrous:
1. Scams: Con artists are always coming up with new ways to purchase products without actually providing you with valid funds. This type of con is only more prominent and more difficult amongst high price tag items like recreational vehicles.
2. Extensive Time Investments: Do you have a job? If not, you do once you’ve taken on the project of selling your recreational vehicle on your own. You’ll need to keep your ad/s up to date. You’ll need to respond to calls, voicemails, texts, and emails in a timely manner. You’ll have to schedule in person meetings with individuals who act interested. You’ll most likely need to mobilize the RV and meet halfway for many of the interested parties. You’ll also need to do all of this with a smile on your face. It’s called customer service, buddy, and you’ll have to dig deep and come up with some.
3. Cleaning and Repairs: Did you think that people would be willing to look past a little dirt? Most really aren’t that willing to envision how clean it might be with a little elbow grease. You’ll have to go ahead and put that elbow grease into action to provide them with the finished results. Those cosmetic repairs you’ve been putting off? You should probably go ahead and complete them now that you’re trying to sell. People will recognize them as doable, but also avoidable because there’s another RV for sale by another owner a couple blocks over and they probably have an appointment with them next.
You really don’t avoid the negatives of the typical consignment RV lot when you sell by owner. You just add a bunch of new issues to the mix. How do you avoid ALL the hassle? You sell directly to a professional RV buyer, of course. You didn’t know professional RV buyers existed? They actually do.
