RV Consignment Sales: Not Your Typical Consignment Boutique Specializing in Vintage Shoes and Clothing
February 26, 2012 4:09 pmI have my favorite consignment shops. I love the little boutique-like consignment places that have a specialty: vintage shoes and clothing, old school techie items, “most likely” antiques, jewelry, etc. There’s always such a wide array of options. I think it is utterly delicious to be able to pick through a tray of jewelry and find the pieces that seem too amazing (or too ridiculous) to wear anywhere and then imagine who wore them and where they went while they were so amazingly (or ridiculously) adorned. Consignment shops make me smile. They make me sigh and want to go in. Every now and then they make me want to buy. The “every now and then” is notable when you are considering selling a major item through a similar method. Take RV consignment sales. They work off the same theory and they get a lot of the same results, but at the same time, they aren’t your typical consignment boutique.
RV consignment sales are quite a bit different than selling clothing or shoes on consignment. It’s a recreational vehicle (or RV). That’s a major purchase in the eyes of most consumers and that changes the rules. So as a consumer that frequents consignment shops I can attest to the fact that “every now and then” I buy something. This “every now and then” will become “few and far between” when the items at hand are falling into the major purchase category.
You have to consider the downfalls of the consignment method for RVs:
1. Sales people on a consignment RV lot are not selling your vehicle. They are selling any vehicle on the lot. They don’t care which one it is; they just want a sale and any sale will do.
2. The competition on the lot is high. Your vehicle is most likely going to be side by side with a lot of very similar options. It’s hard to stand out and get the sale in a timely manner.
3. Side by side price comparisons are not always beneficial for the seller. The owner of the RV next to you may be more desperate for cash than you are and therefore willing to lowball their RV’s value. That leaves your RV looking overpriced. It can be problematic.
Don’t assume that because you once purchased a pair of vintage heels at a consignment shop that your RV is going to be purchased quickly off of a local consignment lot. That particular pair of shoes may have been sitting in that consignment shop for years. You really have no idea. The same can be true of some of the RVs on consignment lots. They sometimes have to earn the sale by gaining seniority on the lot.
If this potentially extensive time requirement is making you sweat and you know that you simply wanted to sell your RV without getting into an argument about consignment RVs and vintage heels, take a deep breath. It doesn’t have to be this way. Instead you could simply get in touch with SellMyRVToday.com. You want to sell a recreational vehicle today? That’s so funny…because we want to buy one. We’re in the business of buying RVs. It’s fun for us. So stop stressing and let’s get started.
