Why You Should Sell Your RV Online
November 5, 2020 3:23 pmWhen you have an old car you want to junk, you call a salvage yard and sell it on the spot for what it’s worth. If the car isn’t that old, you find a dealership that is willing to pay cash on the spot with no strings attached. Yet, what happens when you have an RV you want to sell? This is a little trickier because salvage yards rarely take RVs and car dealerships generally don’t deal in RVs.
There are a couple of different ways you could sell your RV. There’s really only one really great way to sell it though. Take a closer look.
You Could Just Drop It Somewhere, Lock It and Put a Sale Sign in the Window
This is what a lot of RV owners do. They lock up their RVs, put sale signs in the windows and then either leave them on their own properties near the road or drop them someplace conspicuous. It takes forever to sell an RV like that, especially if you don’t live in a high traffic area or you leave the RV parked on property where not a lot of people drive by. Then, if the owner or someone else who buys the property where you parked the RV wants you to move the RV, where will you park it next? How will you sell it?
If the RV isn’t on your personal property, you run the risk of having it vandalized or broken into. Then nobody will buy it until these issues are fixed. You would have to check on the RV at least once a day where you have it parked remotely to make sure it is still in good sale condition. Finally, you may get a lot of interested people wanting to look, but nobody wanting to buy.
You Could Sell It to a Dealer
Do you even know where the nearest RV dealer is? Most people do not. They often purchase an RV through a private party or through a manufacturer that then ships the RVs to their homes. If the latter is how you came by your RV, it may be trickier trying to get the RV back to the dealership to see if they will buy it back. Even then, the RV dealership may try to convince you to trade it in for a new RV or buy a new RV outright after you sell them your old one.
Most dealerships won’t even consider offering you a purchase price for an RV if the RV is older than ten years. As such, you may not be able to sell your RV to an RV dealership even if you are able to get it to the nearest dealership. It could result in a lot of expensive gas and a wasted trip.
If they do buy it, you’re not likely to get your asking price either, since dealerships are in business to make money, not lose it. They can’t make money on something they buy for the cost the owner is asking unless the owner asks for an amount that is way below the value of the RV.
Sell It Online
This is your best bet for selling your RV. Do you know why? For one, the company buying RVs online usually buys them sight unseen. They may require some info about the last time you had engine work done or when tires were replaced, etc.. However, they are more willing to pay your asking price or closer to it than a dealership. They also won’t try to sell you anything else because they are more like a brokerage than a dealership.
Best of all, you can get cash in hand TODAY for the RV. They just need the year, make and model of your RV to determine what they are willing to pay. They will also expect it to run so that a driver can be dropped off to drive the RV back to their lot. They will make you an offer within minutes. If you choose to accept it, they can either direct-deposit the funds after the RV is picked up or hand you a paper cashier’s check when they arrive to pick up the RV. It is off your hands in a matter of a day or two rather than weeks.
