RV Consignment In Texas
July 9, 2013 9:00 amAt SellMyRVToday.com we understand that with the downturn of the economy over the last few years, many people in Texas need to tighten their budgets and sell their RVs. There are many different ways selling a used motorhome can be accomplished. RV consignment in Texas is one such way. But do you know what important items you must consider when thinking about consignment? Here are a few examples:
The Loan – If you have a loan on the motorhome, you must continue making the payments. Many people think that once it is on the dealership lot they no longer have to pay on the loan. That is not correct and can be a very costly mistake. The last thing you want to happen is for your loan to go past due or even worse, your unit to be repossessed.
Insurance – The RV dealer will state in your consignment agreement that he is not liable for any damage to the RV while it is on the lot. He will also say state that you must keep insurance on your rig while it is in his or her possession. Many people do not realize that while their RV sits on a dealership lot, they might not have insurance coverage. It is very important to verify with your insurance company that your RV will be protected while it is out of your care. There are many things that can happen to your motorhome. These are critical questions you must have answered before consigning your RV. You may be required to purchase an additional policy to cover your motorhome while it is on consignment.
The Consignment Agreement – It is very important that you go over every part of the entire agreement before signing any paperwork. Make sure you know what the selling price will be and what you are paying the dealership. Verify what you are responsible for and what the dealership is responsible for. What do they do if you owe more on the RV than it is worth? You need to understand how your motorhome can still be sold and what you need to do to complete the sale when there is a buyer.
Getting The RV Ready To Sell -You will be required to get your RV ready to sell. This includes draining the water system, emptying and flushing the holding tanks, and if necessary, winterizing the unit. You need to agree on a price if you want the dealership to do these things for you. Also, make sure you remove all your personal items. If you have accessories you wish to include in the sale, make sure you list them for the dealer and the potential buyers, but don’t leave these items in the RV.
As you can see, there are many things to consider when you are thinking about selling your RV on a consignment lot. It is so important to read over the consignment agreement. I know someone who was charged a lot of extra fees that she wasn’t expecting because she signed everything without really reading it closely. I don’t want to make that mistake.
